Growing Up!

A walk in the park

Saturday, 30 August 2008

Tabatha is slowing learning the English language!

1. LEAD: A strap which attaches to your collar, enabling me to lead mummy where I want her to go.

2. DOG BED: any soft, clean surface, such as the white bedspread in the bedroom or the new sofa in the living room.

3. BIN: A container which mummy leaves in the kitchen to test my ingenuity. I have to stand on my hind legs and try to push the lid off with my nose. If I do it right I am rewarded with margarine wrappers to shred, beef bones to consume and moldy crusts of bread.

4. Sniff: A social custom to use when I greet other dogs. Place your nose as close as you can to the other dog's "Bottie" and inhale deeply, repeat several times, or until mummy makes you stop. This can also be done to human's crotches.

5. BICYCLES: Two-wheeled exercise machines, invented for dogs to control body fat. To get maximum aerobic benefit, you must hide behind a bush and dash out, bark loudly and run alongside for a few yards; the person then swerves and falls into the bushes, and you prance away.

6. DEAFNESS: This is something which affects me mainly when mummy wants me to come back but when I'm having too much fun to come back. My symptoms include staring blankly at the mummy and aunty caz, then running in the opposite direction, or lying down.

7.THUNDER: This is a signal that the world is coming to an end. Mummy remains amazingly calm during thunderstorms, so I feel it is necessary to warn her of the danger by trembling uncontrollably, panting, rolling my eyes wildly, and generally going absolutely mental!

8.MUMMYS OFFICE BIN: This is a dog toy filled with paper, envelopes, and old sweet wrappers. When I get bored, I turn over the basket and strew the papers all over the house until mummy comes home.

9. SOFAS: Are to me like napkins are to mummy. After eating it is polite to run up and down the front of the sofa and wipe my whiskers clean.

10. BATH: This is a process by which mummy drenches the floor, walls and herself. I often help by shaking vigorously and frequently.

11.BUMP: The best way to get mummys attention when she is drinking a cup of coffee.

12. LOVE: Is a feeling of intense affection, given freely and without restriction. The best way you can show your love is to wag your tail. If i'm lucky, mummy will love me in return. If not, I always go and sniff their crotches.

Second Dog Show Success for Tabs

On Saturday 23rd August 2008 GOT went off for another dog show. The End of the Road Show 2008 is a community event, held in Sennen, show-casing and celebrating the wealth of talent we have in Penwith, as well as bringing exciting music from well-known West country acts combined with dance, theatre, art, craft market, eco-activities, bar, food and games for the whole family..

Tabatha, Lynn and Caz all arrived and registered Tabs for 4 classes in the dog show:
1. Prettiest Puppy

2. Prettiest Bitch

3. Most endearing eyes

4. Dog judge would most like to take home.

Well what can i say! The competition was tough, but yet again it was a clean sweep for Tabatha! 1st prize for prettiest bitch, 1st prize for prettiest puppy, 4th for most endearing eyes and 4th for dog judge would most like to take home.
Hopefully Caz will update the blog with pictures as she was the one with the camera!

Puppy training has started

Tabatha started school this evening!

First task was to sit(sit).....she managed this

Second task was to lay(down)......she managed this

Third task was to come (come)........the trainer held her whilst i walked away, Tabtha then had to "come" when I called her.........FAILED!!! Tabatha ran off into the kitchen! We tried it again, this time i used the command "here" and not "come" ........hey presto she managed this

Next 3 hoola hoops were placed on the floor and a selection of cones. We had to walk up to first hoop and "sit".......she manged that, then we had to walk up to 2nd hoop and "down"......she managed that, then the 3rd hoop and "stand".....No she sat! Will have to work on the "stand" command

Finally we had to weave in and out of the cones to "heal"......she managed that.

At the moment she is still on the lead, but next lesson we will try it off the lead!

Today was the first lesson, Tabatha was very well behaved but a little distracted by all the other puppies!!!!! Hopefully she will calm down a little next time and concentrate a little harder!! The trainer was pleased and seems to think that Tabs will pick it all up very quickly....sounds promising.

I'm so pretty

Even if she doesn't do well at her first day of school I reckon she could win on charm alone!

My Robert Harrop "Doggie People"

Robert Harrop began creating figurines in 1986. Beginning with horse figurines, he quickly realised that there was more character in dogs, particularly with the many different breeds available. Robert Harrop was already an eperienced modeller in ceramic resin, but held the view that the accepted modelling techniques of that time did not epress the full potential of the medium. Robert set out to design a totally different concept which he epressed with his new motto "Originality by Design". His skill and new techniques slowly gathered pace and by the early 90's his work was attracting the attention of serious collectors.
The first range of dog figurines were known as "Country Companions" and were so popular that Robert Harrop was able to move into new, purpose built, premises at Coalport House, near Telford, in Shropshire. Later, as the dog figurines range epanded, Robert Harrop renamed the collection "The Doggie People".

Here is my collection so far..........
